Downtown Miami Goes Green

museum-park.jpgThanks to films like An Inconvenient Truth and the efforts of environmentalists to make people more aware of the consequences of global warming, it appears that many are finally starting to incorporate a few environmentally friendly habits into their daily routines. South Floridians in particular are mindful of rising gas prices and their negative effects and seem to be driving less or investing more heavily in hybrid vehicles.

It’s not just everyday individuals who are becoming environmentally cognizant. South Florida real estate developers have been coming up with ingenious new ways to take advantage of natural resources and use them to create buildings like the Ten Museum Park downtown Miami condo. Instead of using the common building approach, Ten Museum Park is completely encased in energy efficient glass, allowing it to make maximum use of the daylight and thus save on using electricity, at least while the sun is still out.

The Ten Museum Park condo only makes up a small portion of the larger effort being made by the entire downtown Miami area which is already known for its dazzling skyscraper displays of light. On March 29 just about everything except for the essential traffic and pedestrian lights will go dark for an hour in a multinational effort to show the importance of energy conservation.

It doesn’t matter what kind of South Florida home you live in. You can always adopt new practices into your lifestyle and in your home from installing energy efficient windows and refrigerators to simply taking the time to recycle those plastic bottles instead of throwing them in the trash or completely turning off your computer instead of leaving it on sleep mode. It may not look like you’re doing much but rest assured your small contribution yields tremendous environmental results in the long run.
